The Designer When I was in China, two years ago, I was just a so-called "nerd" who found joy only in books .After I moved to Canada, with no homework for the entire summer fisrt time ever, I found a new world online. Back then, I watched very few animes, and liked only Meitentei Conan (Detective Conan). I went on forums, fan sites, and shrines. It was just last year, I decided to make a fan site of my own. In the beginning, it was hosted on freewebs. Quite sad, with WYSIWG editor, nothing can be done, and I had only 7 pages due to limitations free account. Later, I thought it was very time comsuming, so I moved to aloofhosting and started to make a site by Microsoft Frontpage. Kero helped me a lot, she told me about what program to use. I was really stubborn that I refused to use Adobe Photoshop. Macromedia Fireworks was my friend, but it was just for beginners. I had a sad little theme which could not even be called a layout. However, I made the header myself. Even today, I should say, it was REALLY good for a beginner. After my Conan site got up to 3600 hits, I closed it down because I shifted my interets to Naruto. Not long after that, I decided to make a new graphic site with inspiration from the wonderful Ivy and Melfina. My good friend Kero, at the time was thinking of creating a design site as well, so after discussion, we started Graceful Lament. In Feburary 1st, Graceful Lament got up, and I started to use Photoshop. I think we are successors because within 10 months, Graceful Lament turned into a community based resource site which attracted many visitor each day. I can never forget this experience because working with Kero is the best thing in the world. We made a dream come true. I also met many great friends online. The Artist I started painting when I was only five, and at the age of five, I got a national wide award for traditional Chinese painting. When I was six, I got my second and third prize for the annual national art and calligraphy compitition. First a bronze, then a gold. I have own more than 20 regional, provencial and national contests in elementry school. When I was in Grade 5, I started to learn line drawing. I improved very fast, though I quited after going into middle school, I was able to draw still life, landscape, sculpture, life drawing and etc. Along the way, I tried wood printing, crayons, pencil crayon, watercolour, and most significantly, oil painting. Right now, I am also able to do digital designs, and CG art works. I am in a special program called Cyber Arts. Cyber ArtS is a multi-disciplinary, integrated arts and technology program. The curriculum includes the traditional arts, graphic design, multimedia, film and video, animation, industrial design, desktop publishing, web design and architectural design based projects. |
